Historic Houses

In the UK, we are blessed with a rich and coloured history. Berkshire is home to many historic homes – from Windsor Castle, the largest inhabited castle in the world to iron age dwellings long since abandoned.

The National Trust manages Highclere Castle (film location of Downton Abbey) in Newbury, Basildon Park and Mapledurham House and watermill in Reading and of course the impressive Cliveden House with gorgeous gardens and storybook play areas and new Cliveden Maze. Check the National Trust website for entry prices for each of these historic houses – it can work out very cost effective to buy annual membership if you are going to visit more than two properties in the space of a year.
