|PLEASE NOTE: The Lookout is closed for maintenance 14 – 18 January 2013|
Nestled in the edge of Swinley Forest on the outskirts of Bracknell is possibly the best indoor day out in Berkshire. Toddlers, teenagers and Science Geeks alike will love The Lookout Discovery Centre.
The log cabin look of the building is deceptively quaint. Inside you’ll find enough hands-on experiments, technology activities and science fun to last the whole day. Families often start in the water-play area, which encourages children to get stuck in right from the start. Aprons and stools are provided so nobody is too small to discover the secrets of how locks work or find out for themselves the wonder of surface tension. Toddlers, parents and even teens can all be found in this very popular area.
The huge area of puzzles and brain teasers will have you enjoying exercising your maths cortex without it feeling a bit like homework. In fact this area is so addictive you are bound to come back for more before the day’s out!
In addition to the entry price (Please check current prices with The Lookout), you may wish to watch the show, which incurs an extra charge of £1.85 per person. These are generally suitable for children over 5 and they are well worth the extra money. The children will be awestruck as they witness the display of light and fire. Especially fun in the dark winter months. The current show will run on weekends and holidays until 6th January. The Slime Show will run from 16th Jan to 6th May 2013. Perfect to brighten up the February half term and Easter holidays.
Watch your children’s eyes light up as they enter the main hall. Air balloons, ball pool, gravity defying activities! You will have a hard time dragging them away. But, when you finally do they can have an equally wonderful time in the light and sound room where older children and adults will love to leap through the air and leave shadows on the phospherous wall; morph their faces in the light box; playing a laser harp. The only way to top this is with a trip to the top of the tower.
In good weather the only way to finish the day is on the adventure playground!
If adults and older children have any energy left there is always Go Ape – where you can swing and zip through the trees. Go Ape is situated in Swinley Forest close to the Lookout. It re-opens on 23rd March 2013, but is also open at certain times during February. Check their website for the latest information.
